Harriet Chamberlain-Webber: 2021

While I have explored many other themes throughout my artwork at university, the subject of the unconsciousness, or that which projects an individual’s primitive desires through dream sequences and other subconscious behaviours, has consistently captured my attention. To me, the dream world in particular is a prominent source of creativity, owing to the bizarre, yet revelatory imagery that the brain is able to conjure during the unconscious state. It is this imagery that has been the primary influence in my work and the avenues I have explored as a result of this. The majority of my artwork this past year has been the product of my process of recording my own dreams. I found that the exploration of these primary accounts through art were what enabled me to gain a personal understanding of my mindset at the time using the ideas and theories of psychoanalysis; the study and interpretation of dreams.
